Want to
become a Precinct Committeeperson or looking for more information about it?

Role and Responsibility

This position is our front line, our "boots on the street" to spread information about our candidates and party. To be elected, you must run in the precinct in which you live and gather at least 10 signatures (9 + you) on a petition, which is filed like other candidates. To be appointed, you contact the party chair and after appropriate investigation and review, you can be appointed to an open precinct ANYWHERE in the county.

Precinct Committeepersons (PCs) distribute information to voters in their precinct, circulate candidate petitions, take action to get voters out for each election, help find election judges and poll watchers for election day, and canvas the precinct to ascertain new voters and preferences for independents. A PC's involvement can start as small as distributing information before the election to all the items listed above - you make the job what you want, and the more you do, the greater the impact will be!

There are really only two differences between elected and appointed PCs (other than residency).

Elected PCs are in office after the primary election and vote for the officers of an organization at the county convention (held 29 days after the primary).

Appointed PCs take office upon appointment and completion of forms, but not until after the county convention.
